JELAJAHNEWS.ID – Pj Gubernur Sumut Agus Fatoni mengatakan media berfungsi menjadi sosial kontrol dalam roda pemerintahan, agar pelaksanaannya dalam berjalan dengan baik, dan sesuai regulasi.

“Sosial kontrol media memang harus dilakukan karena pemerintah itu memang harus dikontrol karena kekuasaan tidak boleh tanpa batas,” ujar Agus Fatoni saat memberi kuliah umum sekaligus membuka Sekolah Jurnalisme Indonesia (SJI), di Aula Hotel Grand Inna Medan, Senin (23/9/2024).

Untuk diketahui, Sekolah Jurnalisme Indonesia (SJI) pertama kalinya diselenggarakan di Sumatera Utara, dan kegiatannya akan berlangsung dari 23 – 27 September 2024 dengan mengusung tema “Berintegritas, Berpikir Kritis, Multitasking dan Berwawasan Kebangsaan”

Menurut Agus, agar bisa melaksanakan profesi wartawan dengan baik, harus memiliki ilmu jurnalistik yang mumpuni, dan memiliki ketrampilan yang saling mendukung.

“Untuk bisa menjalankan tugas dengan baik tentu harus punya ilmu. Maka inilah pentingnya sekolah jurnalistik itu,” terang Agus Fatoni.

Ia mengakui, selain memiliki banyak relasi, profesi wartawan dapat menjadi lompatan yang baik untuk mencapai jenjang karir dalam dunia politik.

“Dari profesi wartawan ini bisa jadi apa saja bisa jadi anggota DPRD bisa jadi Bupati atau Walikota bisa jadi gubernur, bahkan jadi menteri,” ucap Agus.

Fatoni juga menyayangkan ada oknum wartawan yang terkesan mengancam narasumber ketika hendak mengkonfirmasi.

“Dia (oknum wartawan) tidak punya kawan banyak, bahkan rezekinya pun tidak berkah,” ungkap Fatoni dengan intonasi bercanda.

Peran wartawan yang kreatif, kata Fatoni, bagaimana membuat sesuatu dengan cara yang berbeda, lebih baik, efektif efisien, dan inovasi di setiap bidang.

“Dimanapun dia berada, pasti inovatif,” pungkas Fatoni.

Sebelumnya, Ketua PWI Pusat Hendry Ch Bangun memberikan kuliah umum SJI tentang pers berwawasan kebangsaan.

Pada kesempatan itu, Hendry menegaskan pentingnya pembelajaran menyeluruh bagi wartawan.

“SJI adalah sebuah kegiatan pembelajaran yang mencakup peningkatan wawasan hingga praktik kerja. Kami berusaha menyusun materi berdasarkan standar Missouri School of Journalism,” ungkapnya.

Turut hadir, Gubernur Sumatera Utara ke-17 Tengku Erry Nuradi, Ketua PWI Sumut, Farianda Sinik, Kabid Humas Polda Sumut, Kombes Hadi Wahyudi, Waka Pendam I/BB, Letkol Bone, Kejaksaan Tinggi Sumut, Andre Wanda Ginting, perwakilan dari PT Inalum, perwakilan dari PTPN, PDAM Tirtanadi dan tamu lainnya.(jai)
